YFF 2026 Golden Sheaf Award Winners

The Yorkton Film Festival wrapped up its 79th annual festival which ran for 5-days featuring more than 300 Canadian films and podcast entries. Events included public screenings, industry round tables, one-on-one private meetings, pitch sessions, and Lobsterfest, with the recognition of outstanding filmmaking at Golden Sheaf Awards Gala on Saturday evening. ScreenSask hosted a Sunday breakfast session with a conversation and discussion around what matters most to Saskatchewan’s film and television community. Check out YFF’s 2026 Program Book. 

Filmmaker Sinakson Trevor Solway took home the Best of Festival Golden Sheaf Award, in addition to the Best Feature Documentary Golden Sheaf, for his film Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot Man.

The Ruth Shaw Best of Saskatchewan award was presented to Lowell Dean for his film Die Alone. Never Use Alone by filmmaker Colin Mathews won three Golden Sheaf awards – including Mental Health, Emerging Filmmaker and Best Performance, by actress Chelah Horsdal. The Assembly produced by Small Army Entertainment won the Kathleen Shannon Award, which honors non-fiction productions that reflect underrepresented voices and exemplify diverse, cross-cultural storytelling.
