If you care about the future of Saskatchewan’s screen industry—and want a direct role in shaping it—this is your moment to step forward. ScreenSask is looking for engaged, thoughtful leaders from across the sector to join its Board of Directors. 

Whether you’re a producer, an industry service provider, or an active member of the broader community, your perspective, experience, and voice matter. Serving on the board is an opportunity to influence policy, support industry growth, and help create the conditions for more production, stronger talent pipelines, and a more connected screen sector in this province.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

ScreenSask’s Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for its Board of Directors. Positions are for a two-year term. All positions are confirmed annually by the membership present in person or virtually at the Annual General Meeting. The Nominating Committee wishes to have representation from a broad cross-section of ScreenSask’s membership. 

Directors shall be nominated or appointed from the following representative areas or organizations, per the Constitution: 

(i) Two (2) to five (5) producers; who shall be elected from members or member representatives who are either employed by a production company or working independently, with a core business of screen based media production that is eligible for and accesses Creative Saskatchewan funds. 

(ii) One (1) to two (2) from industry service providers; who shall be elected from members in industry roles such as equipment suppliers, production facilities, post facilities, animation, audio, audio post.

(iii) One (1) to four (4) open seats; who shall be elected from the general membership of the Association.

(i) One (1) from ACTRA; who shall be appointed by the Saskatchewan Branch of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists

(ii) One (1) from Directors Guild of Saskatchewan; who shall be appointed by the Directors Guild of Saskatchewan

(iii) One (1) from IATSE; who shall be appointed by the Saskatchewan locals of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees

ABOUT SCREENSASK

ScreenSask is a provincial, member-based non-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Established in 1986, SMPIA (operating today as ScreenSask) represents all personnel related to the making and exhibiting of media productions from beginners to veteran professionals. ScreenSask’s job is to be a catalyst for change, to facilitate interaction between people working in these media, and to help to create an environment that provides opportunities for the production, promotion and appreciation of media production in Saskatchewan. 

HOW TO APPLY

Your application must include the following: 

  • CV/Resume outlining your relevant experience in the Saskatchewan film and television industry.
  • Which category you would like to represent (producer, industry service provider or open seat).
  • A short bio (250 words or less).
  • Head shot.
  • A video (1 minute or less) giving your pitch for why you should be elected to the ScreenSask board.

All nominations will be forwarded to the Governance & Nominations Committee for eligibility review. Your bio, headshot and video will be used on the nomination website. 

In accordance with the bylaws, nominations from the floor at the Annual General Meeting are not permitted.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SCREENSASK DIRECTORS 

Essential Qualifications 

  • All nominators and nominees must be a member of ScreenSask in good standing with a fully paid membership (Associate and Newsletter Only Members are not eligible.) 
  • Relevant experience in the film and television industry
  • Self-nominations are welcome  

Asset Qualifications:

The following qualifications are considered an asset. Please indicate in your application whether you meet any of the following criteria: 

  • Experience serving as member of a board of directors for a public, private or non-profit organization 
  • Knowledge and/or experience of public policy development and delivery 
  • Knowledge and/or experience of best practices in equity and inclusion, support programs for underrepresented groups, research and funding for equity-based initiatives   

Board Director Duties 

  • To familiarize themselves with the Constitution, Bylaws, Policies and Structure of the organization 
  • To review minutes and agenda of all committee and Board meetings and correspondence circulated and to come prepared to Board Meetings 
  • To attend meetings of the Board, general meetings of ScreenSask and board planning and orientation sessions 
  • To be an advocate on behalf of ScreenSask 
  • To lend the benefit of their experience and expertise to the work of the organization; 
  • To understand and assume the fiscal responsibility of managing public funds and recognize the legal responsibility for the salaries of the employees.
  • To sit on at least one committee of the Board. 
  • To support fundraising efforts of the organization. 
  • To foster positive working relations with staff. 
  • To act with honesty, good faith, and in the best interests of the organization.  

Directors of ScreenSask are expected to attend the following meetings each year: 

  • Five to six regular board meetings each year either in person or virtually 
  • One Board orientation session (prior to the first board meeting)
  • The Annual General Meeting
  • Board Development sessions 

The Board also appoints board members to provide representation on behalf of ScreenSask at meetings of various other organizations and forums.  Board and committee meetings should not normally exceed 4 hours in duration.
