The Saskatchewan Writers Guild (SWG) is presenting “The Anatomy of a Scene” workshop with Meredith Hambrock. Meredith Hambrock has worked in writing rooms on over 100 episodes of TV Comedy. She most recently served as Executive Story Editor on the sitcom “Corner Gas Animated.”
This is a two-week workshop, taking place on April 14 and April 21.
The workshop isn’t specific to screenwriters, it’s open to all genres, but there will be an emphasize on scene writing. Scenes are tremendously important elements of any sort of fictional story. Whether you’re writing a novel, a short story, a screenplay, or a stage play, scenes have different functions that help move things forward. In this two-week workshop, we’ll study different kinds of scenes and see how they function in their medium. We’ll spend time discussing the dramatic fundamentals that underlie great scenes, consider dialogue writing, humour, character development, and voice. In the second week, we’ll share scenes we’ve written, maybe even read a few out loud, and discuss approaches to revising scenes.
