ScreenSask Writers Room: Web Series & Verticals Edition

ScreenSask invites writers from across Saskatchewan to apply for the ScreenSask Writers Room: Web Series & Verticals Edition.

We are looking for six to eight participants with demonstrated promise as storytellers who are committed to pursuing screenwriting as a discipline.

Applicants must have at least one produced work within the past 24 months—this could be a short film, stage play, or even a piece of digital content that has premiered online. Writers who are collaborating on a project may apply as a team of up to two people. In that case, both must apply separately.

Selected participants will join a cohort guided by an experienced Canadian television writer and guest mentors, gaining firsthand experience of writers room dynamics, story development, character building, and episodic structure, while also receiving market-focused feedback from producers and broadcasters. You’ll have a chance to hone your creative with feedback from senior writers and producers.

Over the course of the program, participants will transform their initial concepts into professional-level deliverables: a one-page series overview, episode pitches, beat sheets, outlines, draft scripts, and a polished mini-bible/creative summary.

By the end, you’ll have a package showcasing your ideas as a production-ready web series or social media vertical series.

This process not only prepares writers to apply to the Independent Production Fund’s Short Form Development Program in March 2026, but also equips them with transferable skills for long-form television writing.

The program culminates in a public table read and showcase event in Regina, where participants will present their work to industry professionals and connect with producers and executives who may help bring their projects to life.

Why web series and vertical series? Because these are a great way to develop a concept that could work as a television series, and because verticals are a growing form of entertainment that audiences are falling in love with.
