Thank you to everyone who came out on February 18th to the ScreenSask Writers Room Showcase at The Cure in Regina, where talented Saskatchewan actors presented a table reading of web series and vertical microdrama pilot scripts to a packed house.
Over the past few months, six Saskatchewan writers have been working through the ScreenSask Writers Room to develop these five web series and vertical microdrama scripts. The goal is to get scripts and a mini-bible for each series ready to be pitched to funders and production partners. The Showcase was an opportunity to give industry and audiences a sneak peak at these series, while helping the writers polish their work after hearing their scripts performed aloud.
Developed through the program were:
- Love Monster, written by Jeff Evans-Todd
- Break Up, Break Down, written by Jordan Wendzina
- Off-Air, written by Amy Hameluck and Karla Weber
- Tunnels of Time, written by Timothy Lenko
- Detective Medusa, written by Tobi Lampard
As part of the program, writers took part in two weekend long writing rooms led by award-winning Canadian screenwriter Ken Craw (Heartland, Family Law).

They also received story editing support from acclaimed writers Sarah Dodd (Private Eyes West Coast, Allegiance), Jennifer Daley (Macey Murdoch, Ruby and the Well) and Jordan Hall (Family Law, Carmilla); and took part in webinars with industry leaders including Daegan Frykland (Shadow and Bone, Bitten), Kate Green (Narcoleap, Menopause: Coming in Hot), Jennifer Kassabian (Saint-Pierre, Hudson & Rex), Mike MacPhadden (Ruby and the Well, Jann) and Brendon Sawatzky (One Way Mirror, How it Ends).
Special thanks to the actors who brought each script to life at the Showcase, Jeff Todd-Evans, Aneurin Sheasby, Style Dayne, Laura Abramsen, Abbey Kelsey, Amy Hameluck, Lynette Piper, Olivia Epp and Frank Michel.
While the formal program has wrapped, we look forward to seeing how the writers progress with their projects.
