AKASHI, Sweeps Multiple Categories winning 5 Awards!
The Whistler Film Festival announced the recipients of its 2025 awards this past weekend, honouring exceptional filming achievements.
Akashi, a Canada-Japan production, received this year’s top honour, the Borsos Award for Best Canadian Feature and the Haebler Award for Best Feature. The film’s writer-director Mayumi Yoshida was the also the recipient of the Best Performance Award, and the Best BC Director Award. Cinematographer Jaryl Lim, picked up the Best Cinematography award.
“When Kana, a Japanese artist living in Vancouver, returns to Tokyo for her grandmother’s funeral, she finds herself caught between two worlds — the life she has built abroad and the one she left behind. As family expectations close in and an old flame, Hiro, reappears, Kana begins to question where she truly belongs.” Watch Akashi trailer.
The 25th anniversary edition of Whistler Film Festival resounded with Canadian talent! Sixty per cent of all films screened were Canadian with 67% of features and 58% of shorts. Check out the list of award winners.
