Tara Yolan Mewis is the founder and President of a successful Canadian motion picture production company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Tara has over 16 years of experience in creating engaging visual media for the masses.
A former news reporter and anchor with CTV News, Tara spent eight years developing daily news stories from concept to completion. As a tv journalist, she researched, wrote, filmed, edited and presented stories of all varieties to the public; many garnering national and international attention. Tara understood that the community needed to be informed about daily events but keeping their attention and making news ‘interesting’ was a challenge. She spent years playing around with different writing styles until she found one that resonated with audiences. She began to excel in coming up with creative ways to tell everyday stories but loved human-interest pieces above all. In the years she worked for CTV News, Tara wrote and produced over two-thousand news stories for the network.
Tara’s passion for storytelling prompted her to start her own company in 2012 where she could have artistic control over the narrative, look, style and equipment used to produce more creative pieces. Over the years, Tara’s skills have multiplied, and her experience and expertise allow her to actively work on all facets of a project; such as storyboarding, scriptwriting, interviewing, directing, filming, lighting, audio mastering, narration, motion graphics / animations and editing. Merging her strengths in storytelling, Tara is able to produce very engaging, extremely cost effective, time efficient, high quality video products.
This uncommon set of skills triggered the rapid growth of her company in its early stages. Today Tara has a small, but mighty team of former CTV journalists, cinematographers, writers and editors who all have a similar passion for communicating the human experience. Honey Cut Studios has completed two television series, one of which has two seasons, and hundreds of promotional, educational and campaign-driven videos for clients across the globe.
