Matthew Ripplinger is a filmmaker whose work is primarily created through analog film manipulation techniques. In 2019, he completed his BFA in Film Production at the University of Regina. His current film work and research resides in the alchemical aspect, using home-made emulsion, optical printing and color separation. His artist practices span from film to photography, printmaking, pottery and light-based installation work. Matt’s film Sir Bailey (2018) has been screened internationally including Edinburgh International Film Festival (Scotland), Antimatter (Victoria, BC), Fracto Film Encounter (Berlin, Germany), Film Festival PROCESS (Riga, Latvia), WNDX festival of moving image (Winnipeg, MB) and others.
His film Sir Bailey (2018) has also been featured in a publication written by Author Dr Kim Knowles titled Experimental Film and Photochemical Practices (2020). He recently participated in the Dawson Film Lab (2022), a residency focused on analog filmmaking and eco-processing that is run by the Klondike Institute of Arts and Culture in Dawson City, YT. Aside from his filmmaking practices, Matt is an experienced carpenter who has spent 5+ years framing houses. He has served as the President of the Board of the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, and is currently a co-organizer for the One Take Super 8 event in Regina.
